Tanque Verde Unified School District is seeking a Grounds/Maintenance Coordinator. The is a full-time, 12-month, benefit eligible position at Tanque Verde High School.
We are seeking someone who will ensure the school site is safe and clean; provides oversight of others in maintaining school grounds and buildings. This position is mostly that of a Groundskeeper with some Maintenance duties.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This position typically reports to the Maintenance Manager position. The school Principal will also have a line of authority to this position.
Example of Duties:
- Responds to and executes required service for daily repair work orders.
- Assists the Maintenance Manager with work orders requiring facilities repair, cleaning, or adherence to safety standards.
- Maintains proper communication with Maintenance Manager, building Principal, and other employees hired to tend to school facilities and grounds.
- Assists the Maintenance Manager with maintaining appropriate preventive maintenance protocol for school equipment, building, and other facility related items.
- Ensures that all safety practices are followed.
- Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
- Keeps supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school / workplace matters.
- Demonstrates support of the school system and its goals and priorities.
- Corresponds with vendors.
- Assigns jobs to specific personnel and provides coordination among maintenance functions.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Business Manager, Maintenance Manager, and/or school Principal.
- Coordinates the physical preparation for concerts, dances, registration and other special events held in the school buildings or in the district office.
- Recommends purchase of cleaning equipment and materials and maintains a supply storeroom.
- Recommends new methods to promote efficiency and reduce costs; initiates training programs for maintenance, custodial, and/or grounds employees.
- Participates in cleaning activities.
- Vacuums, spot cleans and/or shampoos rugs, carpets, and furniture using commercial vacuum cleaners and shampooing equipment.
- Arranges furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and special events.
- Stocks area with appropriate supplies.
- Locks and unlocks doors as directed, secures rooms upon completion of work.
- Initiates work orders for repair/maintenance.
- Moves furniture, equipment or fixtures as required.
- Empties trash receptacles.
- Cleans, sanitizes and disinfects restrooms, sinks, drinking fountains and eating surfaces.
- Restocks paper goods and soaps/cleaners.
- Washes dishes or utensils as required.
- Cleans after special events.
- Sweeps walkways, picks up paper and trash.
- Provides building security, as required.
- Reports to the principal any damage to school property as soon as possible.
- Performs outside grounds duties as required, which may include cutting lawns; pruning shrubs and trees; planting grass, flowers, trees and shrubs; watering lawns; maintaining sprinkler system; repairing fence, gates, walls and walkways; cleaning drainage ditches and culverts; and sharpening and repairing tools.
- May perform outside and inside painting on buildings, structures and facilities.
- May perform minor repairs.
- May replace light bulbs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques and standards.
- Skill in coordinating the activities of subordinates.
- Skill in using cleaning products and equipment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of supervisory experience; OR
- Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training approved by the district.
